De Grote Haay was founded by artistic director Mark Haayema.
Mark writes children’s books, youth theater, television shows and song lyrics. As an actor, puppeteer and director he has worked for TG Gnaffel, ROtheater, De BoterhamShow, the Dutch version of Sesame Street, ResidentieOrkest, NedPhO, Orkest van het Oosten, Fairytale Tree and Stichting 2-ater.
